How to: Create a PivotTable using data in Excel.
Solution:
Select 'PivotTable...' from the 'Data' menu and follow the instructions in the PivotTable Wizard.
1) Select the 'Data' menu and select 'PivotTable...'. (The PivotTable Wizard Step 1 of 4 dialog box appears.)
2) Select the 'Microsoft Excel List or Database' radio button from the 'Create PivotTable from data in' group.
NOTE: This option is typically selected by default.
3) Click 'Next'. (The PivotTable Wizard Step 2 of 4 dialog box appears.)
4) Type or select the range containing the data to use in the 'Range' box.
NOTE: If data is already selected, the references for the selected data appear in the 'Range' box.
5) Click 'Next'. (The PivotTable Wizard Step 3 of 4 dialog box appears.)
6) Design the layout of the PivotTable:
a) Click desired field button and drag it to the 'Row' area.

NOTE: Items in the 'Row' area will appear as row labels in the PivotTable.
b) Click desired field button and drag it to the 'Column' area.
NOTE: Items in the 'Column' area will appear as column labels.
c) Click desired field button and drag it to the 'Data' area.
NOTE: Items in this area will summarize the data in the source list.
d) (Optional) Click desired field button and drag it to the 'Page' area.
NOTE: Items in the 'Page' area will allow data to be shown one at a time and from different angles.
7) Click 'Next'. (The PivotTable Wizard Step 4 of 4 dialog box appears.)
8) Type or select the cell where the PivotTable starts in the 'PivotTable Starting Cell' box.
9) Type a name for the PivotTable in the 'PivotTable Name' box.
10) (Optional) Select the desired check box in the 'PivotTable Options' group.
Completing a PivotTable
11) Click 'Finish' to close the PivotTable Wizard and display the PivotTable.
